Lions ink first-round OL Frank Ragnow to rookie deal

The Detroit Lions signed five draft picks as rookie minicamp opens, including first-round pick Frank Ragnow.

The No. 20 overall selection, Ragnow signed a four-year deal expected to be worth around $11.8 million total. As with all first-round selections, the deal comes with a team option for a fifth season.

The Lions also announced the signing of running back Kerryon Johnson, defensive lineman Da’Shawn Hand, offensive lineman Tyrell Crosby and fullback Nick Bawden.

Ryan Shazier’s recovery from a potentially career-ending back injury has served as an inspiration for the Steelers organization.

Steelers GM Kevin Colbert told ESPN’s Jeremy Fowler in mid-February that Shazier has been involved in meetings with coaches and front office staff, where he’s been learning “personnel stuff,” and working out in Steelers facilities. His attitude, however, has been the true standout for the GM.

“But the great thing about it is Ryan does as much as we do for him because the way he works at this and the attitude that he has shown and his rehabilitation, it’s really uplifting,” Colbert said. “Never once has he said, ‘why me?’”

Both the Jets and Redskins announced on Monday that they will have joint practice sessions on August 12,13 and 14 before facing off in a preseason game at FedEx Field on Thursday, August 16.

“It will be a nice change of pace for our players to face another team,” Jets head coach Todd Bowles said. “We’d like to thank the Redskins for having us. Hopefully, we can help each other prepare for the upcoming regular season.”

It’s the first time the Jets will take part in joint practices since they worked with the Giants in 2005. It’s the first time for the Redskins since they held workouts with the Texans in 2015.

Which veterans are in danger after the draft?

Roethlisberger sees things a bit differently. Roethlisberger said “it’s a good thing” to play a teaching role with younger players, although he stressed that one of the rookie’s lessons will be about patience because Roethlisberger isn’t planning on giving way anytime soon.
