Giants tackle Michael Bowie charged with domestic violence

New York Giants offensive tackle Michael Bowie faces misdemeanor domestic violence charges stemming from allegations he physically assaulted his girlfriend during an argument in Bixby, Okla., this summer.

The Tulsa World reports that Bowie is accused of one count of domestic assault and battery and two counts of malicious injury to property under $1,000. Bowie, 25, had a warrant out for his arrest as of Saturday afternoon.

“Football has afforded me a platform throughout my career to have a greater impact on my humanitarian work. At this time, I feel drawn to make the larger fight for human rights a priority. My life’s purpose is bigger than football.”

Boldin, 36, caught 67 passes for 584 yards and eight touchdowns for the Lions last season. He was slated to see plenty of action moving forward in an offense without Sammy Watkins, while also serving as a mentor to rookie Zay Jones.

In 14 NFL seasons with the Cardinals (2003-09), Ravens (2010-12), 49ers (2013-15) and Lions, Boldin has 1,076 receptions (ninth on the league’s all-time list) for 13,779 and 82 touchdowns and was named to the Pro Bowl three times.

Contracts for guards have exploded in the last two years, and part of that should be attributed to Sweezy, who surprisingly cashed in with the Bucs on this $32.5 million contract. Sweezy spent the entire season on the PUP list last year and never played a down for the Bucs. He’ll get a chance to start this year, but it would not be surprising if this season proved to be his last in Tampa.seahawks_127

Iman Shumpert trade to the Rockets has been stalled, per report

After the Cavaliers appeared to be trading Iman Shumpert to the Houston Rockets, the deal has reportedly stalled significantly, according to The Vertical’s Shams Charania.

Cleveland was close to sending Shumpert to the Rockets, according to ESPN’s Adrian Wojnarowski, for a future draft pick and a trade exception. The potential deal was an effort by the Cavs to conserve space under the luxury tax in order to retain sharpshooter Kyle Korver, who becomes a free agent this summer.

On Friday, the Timberwolves traded Ricky Rubio to the Utah Jazz for a first round pick, clearing the cap space that they needed to sign Teague. While Teague isn’t a lethal shooter, his jump shot is more dependable than Rubio, who still can’t crack the low 30s on just a couple attempts per game. Meanwhile, Teague is a career 36-percent shooter from deep, which makes more sense for a Timberwolves team that needs more spacing around Karl-Anthony Towns, Andrew Wiggins and newly added Jimmy Butler.
Authentic Womens Bruce Carter Jersey
Teague spent his first seven seasons in Atlanta but has quickly jumped from a season in Indiana last year to Minnesota now. He’s a reliable pick-and-roll guard who averaged 15 points per game on 44 percent shooting last season, and while he might not be the ideal guard for the team the Timberwolves are developing, his three year deal isn’t outrageous and leaves the team with flexibility.

Authentic Womens Danielle Hunter Jersey Since Payton wasn’t protected by the Rockets, he signed with the Milwaukee Bucks in early April. He played six games with them, making $35,166, plus playoff bonuses. He remains under contract with the Bucks, albeit with a non-guaranteed deal.

However, if Payton can make the team next season, he’s in line to receive more than $1.3 million. (His contract will fully guarantee on Jan. 10, and Milwaukee has an open roster spot as of July 18.) Without his late-season addition to Milwaukee, the team may not have brought him back this year or handed him the starting point guard keys in Summer League.

Our 9 favorite left-handed players to ever play in the NBA

Sunday was International Left-handers Day, because it just being Sunday would have been entirely too predictable. It made us wonder: Who are the best left-handed players in NBA history?

Mens Brett Favre Jersey Irving wanted to request a trade after the Cavs won their title in 2016, but it was Griffin who talked him down from that demand, according to a report from ESPN. Irving’s relationship with Griffin is what kept him in Cleveland and made things work.

No, Griffin isn’t in the organization anymore. But he knows what he’s talking about. When he says Irving will probably be traded from Cleveland, it should be taken seriously. He knows how Irving feels and knows about his rocky relationship with the organization.

The Cavaliers don’t have to trade Irving, but it seems that there’s a chink there that’s beyond repair. As the Cavs GM, Griffin was able to fix it. But he’s in street clothes now and can’t set things back on the proper course.

Griffin noted that when Irving signed his extension in Cleveland, he didn’t anticipate LeBron James’ return. Instead, he was under the impression Gordon Hayward would be the main target and he’d be the main cog. Now, it seems, Irving wants to play out that scenario somewhere else.

Mens Kevin Shattenkirk Jersey For Hardaway, that part of superstardom is both real and significant. Leonard isn’t globally marketable in ways superstars should be, and he may never be. That’s why Hardaway isn’t wrong.

Not that it matters much to Leonard, anyway. He’ll just have to settle for being an incredible basketball player, which, in the long run, is just fine by him and perfect for the rest of us.

The Sixers helped ‘Raise the Cat’ all the way to Catmissioner of Sports 2017

Tuesday, Aug. 8 was International Cat Day and SB Nation decided it was time to give an inaugural award to a sports-focused cat ready to take on a leadership role in the community.

We received dozens of good entries. There were cats wearing jerseys, cats watching TV, cats curled up with balls, and a dead deer at the bottom of a pool because that kind of thing happens when you ask for something on the internet.

Decisions like which cat is made a commissioner should not be made by a small group of people. The democratic process must be respected, and as such we put the nominees up for vote on Twitter.

The league also reduced instances of five games in seven nights from 70 to 36 — now an average of 1.2 per team.

In addition, the NBA reduced the number of back-to-back games from 16.3 per team last season to 14.4 this year, a decrease of 11.7 percent. No team has more than 16 back-to-backs and none will play fewer than 13.

Limited Malik Hooker Jersey The league also ensured that no marquee national TV matchups will be played on the second night of a back-to-back.

NBA commissioner Adam Silver made player rest an area of emphasis this summer after the Cavaliers, Warriors, and Spurs each rested their star players in late March and early April on nights they were expected to appear in nationally televised games. Hopefully, the restructured season results in a win for the players, the league and — most importantly — the fans.

The Jacksonville Jaguars are in midseason form

The Jacksonville Jaguars have been consistently bad for quite some time now. It’s preseason, so the weight of what you see shouldn’t be taken too seriously, but the Jaguars missed some easy plays on Thursday.

First, they were set up nicely at the Tampa Bay 23-yard line with a 31-yard punt return by Keelan Cole.

From there, Chad Henne threw a pair of dimes that were dropped by the receivers.

The drive was finished with a shanked field goal by Jason Myers.

All of this came after Blake Bortles exited the game after an 8-for-13 performance with 65 yards.

Even when Jacksonville shows some type of decent play at quarterback, the receivers aren’t able to handle the ball. They’re looking like it’s Week 8 already.

Sure, it’s only two preseason games, and sure, Glennon has been with the ones, while rookie Mitchell Trubisky has been mostly with the threes, but has Glennon done anything to stand out during his time?

Has Glennon even done anything to separate himself from Trubisky in training camp?

I could see if Glennon was lighting it up in practice, or playing smart mistake free football during preseason, but that’s not happening. He’s had some bad throws. He’s missed some wide open receivers. His ball placement isn’t that hot. He looks very mechanical back there, and part of that is just because he’s not that great an athlete, but there are plenty of poor athletes that have had success at quarterback.

If I’m in a rebuild, like the Bears are, and there isn’t a drastic gap in play between Glennon and Trubisky, then you play the rookie.

Glennon may have committed more of the playbook to memory, but if he can’t execute the playbook, does it matter?

NHL needs to come down hard on Bruins’ Brad Marchand for latest cheap shot

Surprise, surprise Brad Marchand will have another cheap shot reviewed by the NHL office.

The Bruins forward speared Lightning defenseman Jake Dotchin in the groin in the final minute of the first period Tuesday. Dotchin, naturally, crumbled to the ice in pain. Marchand was given a five-minute major and a game misconduct.

Enough with the league slapping Marchand on the wrist; for once, he needs to face severe consequences for his cheap shots.

Watch the play closely: Marchand also sticks Dotchin in the face while he’s down on the ice.

Limited Womens Chris Harris Jr Jersey With regular backup Eddie Lack out with an illness, coach Bill Peters put Alves in the net with 7.6 seconds remaining in the third period. When the final buzzer sounded, alternate captain Jeff Skinner gave Alves the game puck.

It’s a surprise. It’s unbelievable. I was actually heading back down into the tunnel when I heard my name. I looked back and I was like, ‘What?’ And coach said, ‘Get your stuff on,’ he told reporters after the game. It was 鈥?amazing. I couldn’t believe it.
Mens Weston Richburg Jersey
I just remembered looking down the ice and seeing the puck in the corner and saying, ‘Stay in that corner.’ Yeah, it was amazing. It’s still pretty emotional for me.

Alves played with NC State University’s club hockey team from 2002-04 before several short stints in the ECHL and Southern Professional Hockey League (SPHL). He first began working with Carolina’s equipment staff during the 2003-04 season and has been one of the team’s full-time equipment managers since the 2012-13 season.

Yankees vs. Red Sox odds 2017: AL East rivals begin key series at Fenway on Friday

The Boston Red Sox are 11-2 through their first 13 games in the month of August. The Red Sox will try to keep their roll going at home against the New York Yankees in a three-game series starting on Friday night.

Boston is a -140 home betting favorite in the series opener at sportsbooks monitored by Drew Pomeranz will get the start for the Red Sox facing Jordan Montgomery and the Yankees as +120 road underdogs.

The Red Sox have won each of their last five series including taking two of three games in the Bronx from the Yankees last weekend. Since the start of its current 12-2 run, Boston is averaging 6.07 runs per game on offense while giving up only 3.57 runs per game.

Even with David Price sidelined for most of the season with an injury, the Red Sox starters have managed to post a 4.03 ERA, good for third best in the American League behind Cleveland and Tampa Bay.

Reynosa, Mexico and Maracaibo, Venezuela are the two teams that get things started on the international side of the bracket, with a 1 p.m. ET game at Volunteer Stadium, representing Mexico and Latin America, respectively.

The U.S. side of the bracket starts at 3 p.m., with Holbrook Little League Marcus Williams Jerseys

New York Yankees third baseman Todd Frazier, a New Jersey native Josh Hamilton Jerseys

While Chris Sale is the clear star of the pitching staff, Pomeranz has also put together an excellent season with 12 wins and a 3.39 ERA. The Red Sox are 11-4 over his last 15 starts per the OddsShark MLB Database.

Nets’ D’Angelo Russell sees an easy fit with Jeremy Lin: ‘We just go’

As the Nets have been slowly piecing together their franchise rebuild, hamstrung by the team’s 2013 draft-pick giveaway, they’ve sought to find talent wherever it’s available, even if that leads to redundancy on the roster.

That would appear to be the case at point guard, where the Nets traded for D’Angelo Russell this summer despite still having Jeremy Lin on hand.

The December slate isn’t as daunting as last season’s, but it’s still not easy. Two consecutive road games — luckily, their longest road “trip” of the season — against two playoff caliber teams will test Detroit’s ability to win close games down the stretch. The Lions avoid playing at Lambeau Field in the depths of winter for a second consecutive year, but they’ll still be tested in the elements on Christmas Eve in Cincinnati followed by a visit by the Packers.

Lions schedule 2017, record prediction: 8-8
If the Lions can get a few things to swing their way like 2016, their schedule is favorable enough that they can sneak into the playoffs for the second consecutive year. The toughest stretches come in the first half of the season — a tough October, a Monday night game in Week 2 and back-to-back primetime games against the Steelers and Packers.

The offense could be improved if Detroit finds a consistent running game, and the schedule again looks like it’ll test Matthew Stafford’s late-game heroics. If the Lions can put the pieces together early on, the playoffs are possible. If they slip up early, it’ll be an uphill battle. Knowing the Lions, we’ll play it safe with a .500 record.

Tampa Bay running back Russell Hansbrough was being evaluated for a concussion.

At least the Los Angeles-area fans who elected to stay home missed the horror show that was Kellen Clemens, currently the No. 2 quarterback on the Chargers depth chart, behind starter Philip Rivers.

Clemens threw two interceptions the first was returned for a touchdown by Seattle linebacker Terence Garvin, the second led to a Seahawks field goal. Then, a botched handoff by Clemens was recovered by the Seahawks, and rookie running back Chris Carson scored from 1-yard out on the next play.

In between his two interceptions, Clemens did connect with Travis Benjamin on a 74-yard touchdown pass. But the backup QB, with his three turnovers, was the primary culprit of his team’s 34-17 halftime deficit.

Steelers rookie receiver JuJu Smith-Schuster was diagnosed with a concussion after leaving his first NFL preseason game in the first quarter.

Giants safety Duke Ihenacho left the game in the first half with a hamstring injury.

Buccaneers quarterback Ryan Griffin left Tampa Bay’s game against the Bengals in the fourth quarter with a shoulder injury.

Authentic Kids Will Lutz Jersey San Francisco wideout Aaron Burbridge left the game against the Chiefs with a hamstring injury.

No question it will be tough sledding for a team that again figures to finish somewhere in between the NFL’s best and worst.

Here’s a month-by-month breakdown of the Bills’ 2017 regular-season schedule, and how it could play out.

The Bills are fortunate to draw the Jets in what should be a tone-setting win in the season opener. The honeymoon won’t last long, though, when the team heads south for Sean McDermott’s return to Charlotte, N.C., where the Panthers await, eager to make up for a disappointing 2016. A Week 3 meeting with the Broncos is winnable. Denver has a new coach of its own in Vance Joseph and questions at quarterback, so Buffalo will have a chance at home.

Orioles go around the horn for second triple play of the season

There’s no better way to escape a jam in baseball than to get three outs at once. The Orioles pulled it off again Thursday night against the Tigers, turning their second triple play of the season. Efficiency, baby.

Manny Machado to Jonathan Schoop to Chris Davis. You’re out, times three.

The Orioles’ other triple play came May 2 against the Red Sox, though that one was a little more complicated than the 5-4-3 beauty they turned Thursday.

Two triple killings in one season is cool, but they’ve got a little more work to do to catch the 2016 White Sox, who turned three last season.

The Tigers probably don’t care about the Orioles’ feat Thursday, as they won the game 7-5.

One of the most difficult things to get baseball fans to do, it seems, is, well, watch baseball.

Keeping fans engaged in what happens on the field is as difficult as trying to put mascara on a cat’s whiskers. In addition to game broadcasts being relatively formulaic, the pace of play, the length of games and the uber-controversial idea of in-game interviews are all speed bumps for fans’ enjoyment of TV broadcasts.

Game Mens New York Jets Jersey Seldom satisfied with national broadcasts just check baseball Twitter on Sunday nights or during the playoffs 鈥?it seems as though fans are only happy when they’re unhappy.

I’ll give you one who was mentioned a lot this last week: Rays pitching prospect Brent Honeywell.

Honeywell, a 22-year-old right-hander, was the MVP of the MLB Future Stars Game this season, and with good reason. He has sweet stuff a mid-to-high-90s fastball and a devastating screwball.

Kids Justin Hunter Jersey With how wide-open the American League playoff race is, Honeywell could slot into any role the Rays need him to fill rotation or bullpen and they’d be good to make a run at the division title or a wild-card spot.
