New York Giants offensive tackle Michael Bowie faces misdemeanor domestic violence charges stemming from allegations he physically assaulted his girlfriend during an argument in Bixby, Okla., this summer.
The Tulsa World reports that Bowie is accused of one count of domestic assault and battery and two counts of malicious injury to property under $1,000. Bowie, 25, had a warrant out for his arrest as of Saturday afternoon.
“Football has afforded me a platform throughout my career to have a greater impact on my humanitarian work. At this time, I feel drawn to make the larger fight for human rights a priority. My life’s purpose is bigger than football.”
Boldin, 36, caught 67 passes for 584 yards and eight touchdowns for the Lions last season. He was slated to see plenty of action moving forward in an offense without Sammy Watkins, while also serving as a mentor to rookie Zay Jones.
In 14 NFL seasons with the Cardinals (2003-09), Ravens (2010-12), 49ers (2013-15) and Lions, Boldin has 1,076 receptions (ninth on the league’s all-time list) for 13,779 and 82 touchdowns and was named to the Pro Bowl three times.
Contracts for guards have exploded in the last two years, and part of that should be attributed to Sweezy, who surprisingly cashed in with the Bucs on this $32.5 million contract. Sweezy spent the entire season on the PUP list last year and never played a down for the Bucs. He’ll get a chance to start this year, but it would not be surprising if this season proved to be his last in Tampa.
