College World Series Finals 2017: Florida hangs on to take Game 1

Florida is one win away from its first baseball national championship.

Michael Burton Mens Jersey Behind a strong outing from sophomore pitcher Brady Singer, Florida held on for a 4-3 win over SEC rival LSU in Game 1 of the College World Series Finals at TD Ameritrade Park Omaha.

Singer got the win after striking out 12 batters while walking two and scattering eight hits over seven innings. The 6-5 righthander chose to attend Florida despite being a second-round draft pick of the Blue Jays as an 18-year-old high school graduate in 2015.

Michael Byrne, Florida’s sophomore closer, pitched the final two innings to get his 19th save of the season.

The Eagles’ Malcolm Jenkins and Torrey Smith, Patriots’ Devin McCourty and current free agent Anquan Boldin are among the players helping finance the inaugural season of the Southeast Texas Oilers. The organization sprung from the Beaumont (Texas) Bulls program that created a stir last September when an 11- and 12-year-old boys team kneeled during the national anthem, emulating then-49ers quarterback Colin Kaepernick.

The Atlanta Braves have emerged as surprise buyers for the second year in a row during the summer trade window. After acquiring Matt Kemp last July, it appears the Braves are in the market for a starting pitcher this year.

The Atlanta Journal-Constitution has tabbed All-Star pitchers Chris Archer and Jose Quintana as two of the Braves’ top targets. The report also mentioned Athletics pitcher Sonny Gray as an option.
